On September 12, 2026, Sonicstate published an interview about IMFMSynth titled "IMFMSynth - 8 Operator FM Synth Interview."
Seeing my own face on the homepage of a long-established publication like Sonicstate was a new experience for me.
An editor emailed me on September 11, and I agreed to a written interview.
In the interview, I discuss the routing interface, which lets you connect operators directly as you would on a modular synth instead of choosing from fixed algorithms; the idea of combining wavetables with FM; keeping CPU usage low enough to use IMFMSynth in real tracks; DX7 SysEx import; and multilingual support. The article also explores the personal background that led me to create IMFMSynth. It goes into considerable depth, covering my studies at Ichinoseki National College of Technology and Niigata University, my grandfather's work as a traditional Japanese folk singing teacher, and my parents' involvement in a band.
I am grateful to Sonicstate for taking an interest in IMFMSynth, interviewing me, and putting together such a thoughtful article. Their questions gave me a chance to put into words once again what matters most to me about IMFMSynth.
