v1.1 is out, and IMFMSynth leaves beta

IMFMSynth v1.1 is out. With it, the beta is over and IMFMSynth is now a full release. This post also sets out the plan for future prices.

About v1.1

Everything I promised in Plans for a Major Update on September 10, fixes and features alike, has now shipped, across the earlier v1.0.x updates and this v1.1. From requests on KVR Audio came the 32 algorithms, numbered as on the DX7, the fixed-frequency mode, FM AMOUNT, effect reordering, the Output knob, and language selection, among others. Requests on VI-Control and by email added connections that move a wavetable's position at audio rate, per-operator hard sync and ring modulation, and microtuning via MTS-ESP, among others.

The following v1.1.1 made processing lighter. Across 40 cases, the shipped presets plus heavy test patches, the total processing time fell by 12% on a MacBook Neo and by 25% on Windows with a Ryzen 7 5700X.

Every change is listed in the release notes. Existing presets and projects sound the same as before. If you have already bought IMFMSynth, you can download the latest version from your account page.

Why a full release now

During the beta, people in many countries sent reports and requests through forums such as KVR Audio and VI-Control, by email as buyers, and through the communities of the media that covered IMFMSynth, and I have been fixing things along the way. Some even attached data that reproduced the bug they reported. With v1.1, most of the requests I received and the fixes for the reported bugs are in. I am confident in releasing it as a full version.

Price plan

The beta campaign price of $19 / ¥3,000 continues, now called the "launch price". From here on, the price will rise in steps as the number of buyers grows.

  • $19 / ¥3,000 (current price)
  • $29 / ¥4,500 (from 100 buyers)
  • $39 / ¥6,000 (from 500 buyers, provisional)
  • $49 / ¥7,500 (regular price, condition not yet decided)

If a condition changes, or once the undecided one is set, I will announce it on the pricing page before the switch. The same page shows how far along we are.

Asking for opinions on forums and by email turned out to be a far bigger success than I imagined. I am an engineer first and foremost, so the views of audio professionals have been fascinating and taught me a great deal. They are how IMFMSynth has grown. There are also some big features I would like to build that I have not formally promised yet. Nothing is decided, so I will leave them unnamed for now. Stay tuned!

I will keep taking your requests on board. Send feedback and bug reports any time, by email or on the forums.
